Pouncing with the Blues

Pouncing with the Blues Everything is out and ready to transfer the Ecclesiastical Embroidery patterns for the trial run.  Yesterday, I showed you the new transfer products that were purchased while traveling over the summer.  Today is the day. It is time to test them out and see how they work on white fabrics.  The goal is to have something that will show up with a clean, crisp line that is visible when stitching, but….. this is the big part.  It must not leave residue on the white floss and… Read more Pouncing with the Blues

Trial Run at Marking for Whitework

Trial Run at Marking for Whitework A few weeks back, I posted about a special Sunday at church and some concerns with the Sacristy.  The problem that was happening was that small linens such as Purificators were taken home to be laundered.  They depart the Sacristy in a ziplock bag, get forgotten, and when finally remembered, disaster has struck.  The wine stains have mildewed and the Purificators are never returned.  There is an effort afoot, I hope, to start soaking and laundering the small linens at church to avoid this… Read more Trial Run at Marking for Whitework

Glitters of Goldwork Embroidery Threads

Glitters of Goldwork Embroidery Threads Now that the initial task of getting the Ecclesiastical Embroidery Design for the Easter Set Pulpit fall has been accomplished and the laid threads of the Italian stitch seem to suit the area selected, it is time for the next experiment in stitching.  I am pretty confident this should work, but there are a few things still to consider.   For instance, which of the gold threads in the drawer is best suited for this stitching?  The area is rather small, so the gold thread to… Read more Glitters of Goldwork Embroidery Threads

From Inspiration Source to Stitching

From Inspiration Source to Stitching From inspiration sources to stitching into action is often a difficult thing when it comes to starting a new Ecclesiastical Embroidery project, especially if it is a slightly larger hand embroidery project. A larger hand embroidery project can entail size, technique, the design complexity of the embroidery pattern, and many more concerns.  Taking those first stitches, however, and having them look well is a thrill! Over the past week or so, I have been writing about the Easter Set Pulpit fall, the steps taken to… Read more From Inspiration Source to Stitching

Sources of Inspiration from Lucy Mackrille

Sources of Inspiration from Lucy Mackrille Where does inspiration come from when it comes to choosing stitches for current projects? There is a vision of the final project for the Easter Set in my mind, but getting there will be an experiment.  Experimenting while stitching along.  Yes, this Ecclesiastical Embroidery Easter Set project is experimental. The good news is that there are certain features that I have seen and admired in the beautiful hand embroidery works of others.  And so, for now, it is helpful to follow along with the… Read more Sources of Inspiration from Lucy Mackrille

Hand Embroidery Design Framed Up

Hand Embroidery Design Framed Up Yesterday, I showed you the framing of my next hand embroidery project.  It is the Ecclesiastical Embroidery design for the  Pulpit fall for the new Easter Set.  The Ecclesiastical Embroidery design features a cross in the center of a circle. The bars on the cross have detailed floral motifs.  At the center of the cross is a Chi-Rho with an Alpha and Omega on either side in a modified quatrefoil design.  There are some lovely lilies in the corners between the bars of the cross.… Read more Hand Embroidery Design Framed Up
