Altar Linen: Where Linen Comes From

This weekend, as I was working on a project, the thought of linen fabric came to mind.  Years ago, when sewing fashion fabrics, the linen available was to be dreaded. A mere  look would seem to result in wrinkles. I use to cringe at the thought of anything connected with linen. But as the world of Ecclesiastical Sewing has opened over many years, those once dreaded thoughts have softened, just as fine linen does with time.   Some of my favorite styles of linen fabric come from  Access Commodities,  which only… Read more Altar Linen: Where Linen Comes From

Vintage Liturgical Embroidery Library

The Ecclesiastical Sewing workroom is getting a bit of a workout these days.  Things are moving and shuffling around, getting ready for some changes that are happening soon.  Stay posted for updates on that.  While those changes are going on, I thought I might share a quick glance at a tiny corner in the liturgical vestment workroom.  Admittedly, this might not be of much interest to many of you, so my apologies in advance for those who find the topic of books dull and uninteresting. Books have always been something… Read more Vintage Liturgical Embroidery Library

More Vintage Liturgical Embroidery Patterns

The delay with routine posting here on Ecclesiastical Sewing has come as a result of many things.  But never fear. The posts will continue.   So what has been occupying my time in recent weeks?  Well, the list is long, and for the most part, rather boring. But a few good things have come about. Some time has been spent in the past few weeks documenting and sorting through the hundreds of vintage hand embroidery designs and patterns that are now a part of my collection.  I have been working on… Read more More Vintage Liturgical Embroidery Patterns

Still Here Working Behind the Scenes

I must apologize for the lack of recent posts on Ecclesiastical Sewing. I am still here, and there are many things happening behind the scenes.  What, you might be asking, is so important, as to prevent updated posts? I could go on about the usual things relating to family, work, upcoming weddings, aging parents, and the like, but there are other things in the works, like new fabrics to be drooled over………………new Ecclesiastical Sewing Patterns in the making, new Liturgical Embroidery Designs in the works, new church linens to sew,… Read more Still Here Working Behind the Scenes

Vestments and How to Make Them by Lilla Weston

Sundays are a great day to relax and enjoy a good read.  One of my favorite vestment books is an old classic on the topic of Liturgical Sewing.  Like many books in my vast library on the topic of vestment making, Ecclesiastical Embroidery and the making of church linens, the book of choice for this evening is, well, vintage, if a book can be called that. Or perhaps classic might be a better term. However one looks at it, the book on my work table this evening (at least one… Read more Vestments and How to Make Them by Lilla Weston

Liturgical Embroidery Designs: Continuing the Process

Working through the process of creating a new collection of Ecclesiastical hand embroidery designs is always a challenge.  The past few days have seen continued work on a Fleur de lis liturgical hand embroidery design.  The goal is hopefully to create a Liturgical embroidery design collection suitable for use on a variety of church linens and church vestments.  The nice thing about continuing to work on a specific design over an extended period of time is that the design often (but not always) improves. It becomes refined, and clarified. It… Read more Liturgical Embroidery Designs: Continuing the Process
