Every Knee Shall Bow, Every Tongue Shall Confess—That Jesus Is Lord
We live in a world filled with competing claims for power and glory. Nations rise and fall, famous people capture our attention, and opinions constantly surround us. But in the middle of all this noise, the Bible gives us a powerful promise: “At the name of Jesus every knee should bow…and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” (Philippians 2:10–11). These words are not mere poetry; they are biblical truth. One day, everyone, whether they believe in Him or not, will recognize Jesus as King. This reminds us that Jesus is the one who holds everything together (Colossians 1:17), not us or anything else in the world.
St. Ignatius and the Early Church’s Faith
The early Church understood this on a deeply personal level. St. Ignatius of Antioch, writing in the first century while facing death for his faith, declared Jesus as “our God.” He encouraged Christians to stay strong, even when persecuted. For Ignatius, if Jesus is truly Lord, no Caesar, no popular opinion could ever be greater. Even when facing death in the arena, he chose to honor Jesus above all else.
Jesus is Lord
Throughout history, every empire that claimed to have ultimate power eventually fell apart. But the name of Jesus remains forever. Whether we choose to worship Him now or are made to do so when He returns (Romans 14:11), one thing is certain: everyone will recognize that Jesus is Lord.
Worship as Freedom
Bowing in worship is not an act of defeat; it is an act of freedom. When we confess “Jesus is Lord,” we step into the very purpose for which we were created—to honor God and live under His loving reign. This confession connects us to eternal truth and gives us peace that goes beyond the chaos of this world.
A Call to Surrender
The question we face today is straightforward: Will we wait until the final day to recognize Jesus as Lord, or will we choose to surrender our hearts to Him now? For over two thousand years, the Church has declared unchanging truth: “Jesus is Lord.” Let us accept this reality with joy and humility today, proclaiming it boldly. In the end, every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord—and this truth changes everything.
Thank you for following along! I hope it encouraged and inspired you to reflect on how we honor Jesus as Lord in our lives. Please consider sharing it with others to find hope and encouragement in its truth. Together, let’s continue growing in faith and living for His glory.
