Tag: Maundy Thursday

Maundy Thursday holds great significance in the Christian faith because it commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples before his crucifixion. Christians around the world know this day as Holy Thursday, Covenant Thursday, or Great and Holy Thursday. This refers to Jesus’ commandment to his disciples to love and serve one another.

The Last Supper was a solemn event where Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, established the sacrament of the Eucharist, and foretold his betrayal by one of his own disciples. Maundy Thursday marks the beginning of the Easter Triduum. This includes Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Christians celebrate this day with liturgical ceremonies such as the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, the washing of the feet, and the uncovering of the altar. These rituals serve as a powerful reminder of Jesus’ sacrifice and love for humanity. They inspire Christians to follow his example of humility, service, and love.
