The Massachusetts Historical Society Exhibit

The Massachusetts Historical Society Exhibit: Once in a while, we share information related to historical sewing techniques and hand embroidery. Today we would like to share something that, while not specifically related to church vestment making, is nonetheless related to preserving and recovering lost arts relating to hand embroidery. The techniques and skills are important to preserve so that we may all grow in our knowledge and skills in the field.

Kickstarter Campaign

An email came in today about a special Kickstarter Campaign in the works by the Massachusetts Historical Society. They are arranging for an Exhibition of Historical Costumes and would like to publish a companion book that details information about the techniques, costumes, and designs that will be on display. Patricia Nguyen from Thistle Threads is familiar with the project. And for those who know Patricia – there is no one better out there when it comes to restoring the lost art of historical hand embroidery!

So, here is the information from Tricia Nguyen about the Kickstarter Campaign. If you would be so kind as to share this information among groups that you are involved with on your Facebook pages etc. Please click on the link to check out Tricia’s Blog for more information on the project. Thanks!

Soli Deo Gloria

Greetings!
I wanted to point out a very interesting Kickstarter campaign to enable the publication of a textile exhibit book (you can pledge to pre-order the book on Kickstarter).  You might be interested in the book and can enable its publication!
The Massachusetts Historical Society is doing an exhibition on embellished clothing and the stories they have researched behind the pieces.  The exhibit is called Fashioning the New England Family and if they can meet their goal of pre-orders, they will be able to publish the catalog.
This is a new way of making embroidery books and history of embroidery and fashion books happen (there has been a dry spell as publishers run away from niche topics).  I urge you to look at the Kickstarter page, enjoy their blog, and consider pledging to order a copy through Kickstarter.  If you aren’t familiar with how Kickstarter works, I wrote about this campaign and how it works on my blog.
If this works, many of us will use this venue to start writing and publishing works.  Fingers Crossed!!
