The Importance of Symbols in Christian Tradition
The Importance of Symbols in Christian Tradition
Since the dawn of history, humans have cherished symbols as a way to convey complex ideas simply. The Church is rich with these symbols, each passed down through generations, serving as both teaching tools and sources of joy and understanding. Young children’s faces light up with joy when they finally recognize a symbol and can explain its meaning to their parents.
This is why it is crucial for us, as Christians, to remain diligent in preserving and passing on these symbols and traditions. We must not allow their meanings to be lost or abstracted into oblivion by modernity. As Saint Augustine once said, “Symbols are the visible form of the invisible grace,” reminding us that the symbols we hold dear are not just decorations but conduits of divine grace and truth. Jordan Peterson also highlights the importance of symbols in our lives, stating, “Symbols are the means by which we mediate the unknown, giving us the power to grasp what might otherwise be incomprehensible.”
Our mission as a company is to be good stewards of these rich traditions and symbols, helping restore what has been lost over time. We aim to assist churches in worshiping beautifully by providing classical, liturgically sound vestments and materials, avoiding abstract contemporary designs and cheap materials from overseas. Traditionally, vestments were sewn by members of the congregation for the congregation, the pastor, priest, monks, or nuns.
However, we recognize that in today’s age, this isn’t always feasible. That’s why we offer our services professionally. Being US-based, we do have to charge a premium for our vestments, which can be a challenge for some churches. To mitigate this, we have built an extensive library of patterns, trims, digital embroidery designs, appliqués, fabrics, canvas, linings, linens, and more, ensuring you can find all the supplies you need in one place.
We often get asked about offering classes, and we still aspire to do so. We’re currently too small, but we are growing! We now have a small team of about six working mixed hours in the studio, a significant step from our humble beginnings in a basement.
As a token of our gratitude, please enjoy 25% off a fan favorite: our embroidery booklet. At checkout, use code “SYMBOL24”. The code is only valid on the book and expires on September 13, 2024.
As always, thank you for your support—we look forward to serving you!
