A Luther Rose?! What is that?? Part 2
A Luther Rose?! What is that?? Part 2: After the Ninety-Five Theses, Luther’s ideas spread rapidly, aided by the printing press. He translated the New Testament into German, making it more accessible to the general populace, which significantly influenced the spread of Protestantism throughout Europe. His teachings emphasized salvation by faith alone, the priesthood of all believers, and the authority of the Bible. This led to the establishment of the Lutheran Church and greatly altered the course of Western Christianity.
Martin Luther’s later years were marked by both his continued theological work and his controversial writings against various adversaries, including the Papacy, radical reformers, and Jews, the latter of which has been widely criticized.
Liturgical Symbol
The “Luther Rose,” a symbol associated with him, originated from a personal seal he used to authenticate his writings. It features a black cross with a red heart at the center (symbolizing faith in Christ, who saves), which is inside a white rose (to show that faith brings joy, comfort, and peace) against a blue sky (denoting that such joy in the Spirit and faith is the beginning of heavenly joy to come) surrounded by a golden ring (symbolizing that this joy in heaven is endless).
