5 Ways Christians Can Battle Demons Through Scripture

Someone on social media asked: Can Christians fight demons?
And while I knew the answer was yes, it made me realize many of us might not know how or why. So I looked into it, and here’s what I found:
Prayer is not only for comfort. It’s one way we fight in spiritual battles.
James 4:7 says:
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
That sounds like a battle plan. The Bible shows us clear ways we can stand against the enemy. Here are five of them:

1. Pray Out Loud in Jesus’ Name
There is power in the name of Jesus. Saying His name out loud is a strong way to fight. Demons don’t like it. His name brings authority.
“At the name of Jesus every knee should bow…” – Philippians 2:10
2. Read Bible Verses Out Loud at Home
When Satan tried to tempt Jesus, Jesus answered him using Scripture. He didn’t argue—He simply said what was written in the Bible. That’s our example too.
(See Matthew 4: 1–11)

3. Worship Even When It’s Hard
Worship invites God into our space. And when God is present, evil has to go. Even when life feels heavy, worship can change the atmosphere.
“Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses… let us run with endurance the race set before us.” – Hebrews 12:1
“God is enthroned on the praises of Israel.” – Psalm 22:3

4. Use Fasting, Confession, and Spiritual Disciplines
These are not only religious routines, they’re powerful ways. Fasting can break strongholds. Confession brings healing. The sacraments help us stay strong in faith.
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice…” – Isaiah 58:6
5. Ask Others to Pray with You
You don’t have to fight alone. Praying with others invites God’s power in a special way. There’s strength in standing together.
“Where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am with them.” – Matthew 18:20
Yes, Christians absolutely can battle demons. And the best part? We’re not fighting for victory. Christ has already won.
We stand firm in His authority, not our own. Our role is to stay rooted in truth, prayer, and obedience.
